Published by Education Helper | Updated for LAT 2026
To pass the Higher Education Commission's Law Admission Test (LAT), you must first thoroughly understand the paper pattern. Studying blindly without knowing the marks distribution is the biggest mistake students make. The LAT consists of a total of 100 marks, divided into a 75-mark Objective section (MCQs) and a 25-mark Subjective section.
1. Subjective Portion (25 Marks)
This section tests your writing ability, critical thinking, and expression. You have the choice to write this section in either English or Urdu.
- Essay (15 Marks): Write an essay of around 200 words on a given topic. Topics usually cover current social issues, technology, or general life philosophy. (Maximum of 3 topics are provided, you choose 1).
- Personal Statement (10 Marks): A 200-word statement explaining your views on a specific scenario or detailing why you want to pursue a career in law.
2. Objective Portion (75 Marks MCQs)
This section is entirely multiple-choice questions. It tests your basic foundational knowledge across six different subjects.
